We are a new and very friendly local Guild with a new website at http://www.highpeakwsd.org.uk. We started in August 2018 with spinning and weaving sessions and expanded to include a programme of demonstrations and talks from January 2019. We are particularly keen to welcome beginners interested in spinning, weaving and dyeing. We normally meet at Whaley Hall in Whaley Bridge which has rooms for members and guests to spin, weave or knit and for holding events.
Our meetings on the second Sunday of each month start at 10:00 with a half hour of socialising with coffee and all kinds of teas provided by the management of the Hall as well as baked goods provided by members. From 10:30 until lunch time (please bring your own) we have talks, show-and-tell, bragging (if you like) and discussions about spinning, weaving or dyeing problems our embers encounter. Some of our members have been practicing our crafts for many years and all of us are keen to help and learn from our fellow members and guests. In the afternoons, we have communal spinning and weaving.
We ask for £3 from each member attending a meeting which we contribute to the Hall which is an ecumenical retreat centre. Guests are welcome up to three times a year and we ask them for a £5 contribution.
