Derbyshire guild

The Derbyshire Guild has around 40 members and celebrated it’s 40th birthday in 2018. We are all keen weavers, spinners and dyers and also use our yarn for many other associated crafts. The aim of the guild is to keep alive and develop these traditional crafts through our meetings, full programme of speakers and workshops, plus attending shows and events to demonstrate our crafts and display the work of our members.
We meet in a lovely village hall in a picturesque area of Derbyshire a few miles north of Derby. On-site we have a useful library of craft books and a resource bank of equipment that members can borrow. In March we have our AGM and guild competition with several classes, with the winner of each being awarded a trophy.
During the year members attend a variety of local shows to promote the guild by putting on a display of work and demonstrating spinning and weaving. Members of the public are always interested in seeing the traditional crafts being carried out, particularly the children, and we are pleased to attract new members from our visitors to our stand.
We are always happy to welcome interested visitors to our meetings if they want to come along and see what we do. Members are always happy to help those new to a craft in starting off or developing their skills. Everyone enjoys the annual competition, as seeing the array of beautiful and skilful work provides enjoyment and inspiration for all.
If you are interested in coming along for a visit, would like to join the guild or simply want some more information, then please contact the Chair/Secretary via the contact details on this page.
